Apple’s Thursday is the new Tuesday event has come and gone, leaving behind presents stamped “Do not open until June”. It seems as though everything dealing with the iPhone has a slightly out of focus date somewhere on the horizon. Flash, the SDK, the iPhone itself.
All gripes and bitterness aside (read: Sprint customer), the iPhone SDK
was announced today. What does that mean, you ask? Well, in June we’ll be seeing applications pop up on iPhones with the release of the iPhone 2.0 firmware. And more than likely something like iTunes 8.0 That’s right, you heard it here first. iTunes 8.0.

A return to basics? A blogger too lazy place in another color or look for the most recent iCon (ha) for the clip? You decide for yourself. For now, I just feel as though my dock needs more green.
So, after that lovely diversion, back to the iPhone. The SDK will be released to developers today. It uses a four tier system for creating applications for the phone. From there, there is an emulated source that acts exactly as the iPhone, or you can run applications on the iPhone from your computer to debug in real time.
Applications can be purchased through the iTunes store. The cost is decided by the developer, with Apple receiving 30% of the revenue, and the developer receiving 70%. If the application is free, Apple will not charge to host through iTunes.
The beta for the SDK program can be downloaded if you’re a developer from the Apple site. It costs $99 and unlocks the inner-child feature on your computer.
For those of you without a developer’s account that would still like to play with the new iPhone features, you can send in an application over here to be a beta tester. Unfortunately, it’s not for downloading applications yet. Just things like push email and WPA2. You know, things that would allow you to actually have your phone on the server at work since it’s secure. Ah, if only Apple manufactured a version that didn’t have the camera.

Spore? On an Apple blog? In an entry about the iPhone? Well, yes. Spore is coming to the iPhone/iPod Touch in September. It is the first official 3rd party game for the iPhone. Let’s just hope that when playing on a PC you can see characters running around tagged “Sent from my iPhone”.

According to an official Apple shareholder’s meeting on Tuesday, the iPhone could soon have Flash support. Why is this important? Because Safari on the iPhone with Flash will provide us with more "Punch the Monkey" ads than ever before! On a more serious note, it would open up a whole new world of multimedia on the iPhone and would allow users to view flash videos, applications, and even web designs that need flash to operate. In other words, this is huge. Hopefully Apple can keep the monkey business to a minimum and get right to work alongside Adobe to make this a reality.
If you would like a more in-depth look into the situation along with more info on flash itself, visit our friends over at AppleInsider.

Let’s face it. The iPhone is a very distracting mobile device. With its interactive touch screen and all of its cool apps, it is really hard to look away, let alone put it down. The worst part is that like most mobile devices, we depend solely on our visual senses to operate it. Clearly, this becomes a problem while driving through rush hour traffic and attempting to text your buddy, who happens to be in the adjacent lane.

To those of us who are not aware, Apple has been consistently delivering different goods to us every Tuesday this year. This Tuesday, the long awaited iPhone SDK is rumored to be released. Before you start jumping for joy, initial reports gathered by TUAW tell us that we would at best get an Alpha or Beta version of it with a full release following shortly after. In other words, this might not be what Apple has in mind for us this Tuesday, maybe a beefier iPod Touch or a reworked iPhone is in the agenda? Guess we just have to wait it out and find out.
If you have some info to share or just want to speculate, please feel free to post a comment.

The musicians behind the iBand project make sweet music with only their iPhone and the available music apps. These guys are good too! If you like their work, consider going to their website and making a donation so they can get their third iPhone. If they can perform well with two iPhones and a DS, they should bust out with a Beethoven type classical when they get their third. Keep it up fellas.
If you want to be big time rockstars like these guys and get all the chicks then consider getting the iPhone apps that can make that happen for you:
Virtual Piano: iAno
Virtual Guitar: PocketGuitar
Synth: iPhone Synth
Virtual Studio: BeatPhone
For some inspiration, check out iBand in action on YouTube.

If you can recall, Apple CEO Steve Jobs told us back in October that the iPhone SDK would be released in February. Now, with 11 days left in February, the release rumors are stronger than ever. The thing that has given these rumors its wings is mainly the previous statement released by Tiny-Code. ““Tiny Code no longer produces fixes or applications for firmware 1.1.3. We can’t say much, but we are working with Apple and with their SDK for the next firmware release and SDK applications and we shouldn’t be missed for long. We will no longer update our Installer.app repo for legality reasons and you should see us soon on iTunes.” The site that used to be an online repository for Installer.app is now redirecting to Apple’s iPhone Developer Center. With all of these developments, we can surely expect the iPhone SDK to be right around the corner and open up brand new possibilities for iPhone developers everywhere. Stay tuned as we keep you up to date on the developments of this story.
