Apple updates Time Machine/Airport Extreme

Airport Extreme and external devices for use with Time Machine are finally a happy family. Today, Apple released an update that fixed the issues that users were having using Time Machine with an external drive through the Airport Extreme. That issue was: It wasn’t possible without a bit of tinkering and back-end voodoo.
Apple, notorious for releasing new products with fancy software updates that would be capable on current hardware, actually updated a gimped device. Much like AppleTV take 2 and…well, that’s about it. There was a $20 update for the Touch programs (free here) and the whole paying for wireless N on a wireless N computer. Or paying for a new iPod that just has updated software/video features (ie. gen 5 to gen 5.5).
Actually, the only real precedent for this besides AppleTV is Microsoft’s updating the Zune’s software for the first Zune to bring it up to speed with the second Zune. And then I said Zune a few more times.
But anyway, you’re now free to set up an external drive for Time Machine on your wireless network. Rejoice, be elated, eat cheese. Buy Leopard after refusing to due to that feature being mysteriously left off of the features list upon its release.
For those of you looking for instructions:
1. Turn time machine on.
2. Pick your hard drive.
3. Back files up wirelessly.
