Compress Tool Video Tutorial

We the People of AppletizeMe, in Order to form a more perfect tutorial, relay a tip, and provide information, do ordain and establish this Embedded video link with Flash. That’s right, we’re tutorializing through video now.

Watch it, learn things. This inaugural week, we’re teaching you how to use OS X to compress a zip file. In other words, click big things and make them small things.

For those of you who don’t like Flash, here’s the rundown:

Step 1 - Find yourself a folder/file.

Step 2 - Click on said file and bring up the context menu.

Step 3 - Select ‘Compress "Name of your file"’.

And that’s it. Your new archive should show up as "Name of your file".zip

Notes: This works with more than one file or folder by selecting them at the same time and right clicking rather than just selecting one. It compresses all of the files you choose into a folder, so using a zip file is a catch-all. And to uncompress, all you do is double-click the file and it will appear before you.

Okay, now you know it. Impress your friends, confuse your parents. Pick up that girl that you had a crush on in high school that you liked but wouldn’t date you because you didn’t know how to compress a folder into a Zip format.
