Running/hiding applications on startup

Written on February 28, 2008 – 1:35 am | by jason |

Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to do. So rather than going to a forum and suffering embarrassment by asking how to run an application when you start your computer; or more likely, to keep an application from running on startup, here’s how:

1. Start by going to the Apple menu and selecting “System Preferences…”

2. Select “Accounts” (Note: Your System Preferences folder may differ, that’s fine.)

3. Select “Login Items” for your account. In this case, ‘.37′ is chosen. From here, click the ‘+’ or ‘-’ symbol to add/remove a startup application. Below, the button to add is highlighted.

4. From here you choose which application you would like to have run on startup by going through your applications folder.

5. After clicking ‘Add’, your application should be added to the list. To have it hide when your computer starts up, simple check the box highlighted below. Likewise, you may uncheck it to have the application show when you start your computer.

6. To remove an application, simply highlight the desired (or undesired to be more apt) application and click the ‘-’ button, highlighted below.

That’s it! You’re ready to start adding and removing, hiding and unhiding, and using your computer like a regular professional!
